WO1 King enlisted as a soldier in the Australian Regular Army in 1976, attending recruit training at WRAAC School, Sydney, before being allocated to Royal Australian Corps of Signals and employed as an Electronic Data Processor and Operator Computer on the UNIVAC mainframe, Computer Services Division, Canberra for the next ten years. WO1 King later transferred to the Royal Australian Army Ordinance Corps where she was employed as a Clerk Technical with postings to 11 Supply Battalion, 1st Recruiting Centre – Brisbane, 51 Supply Battalion/Perth Logistics Battalion – Perth, Bandiana Logistic Company, Royal Australian Army Ordnance Corps Centre, Royal Military College – Duntroon, and the Defence National Storage and Distribution Centre – Sydney.
In 1994 WO1 King transferred to the Army Reserve, and began a new career in the Australian Public Service as the Purchasing Officer, House of Representatives, Parliament House, Canberra.
WO1 King’s first posting in the Army Reserve was as a Recruiting Officer at the Army Reserve Recruiting Unit – Sydney, tasked with the establishment of the new detachment in Canberra, and as Warrant Officer Class Two in charge of day to day recruiting activities and enlistment.
In 1995 WO1 King (as an Administrative Service Officer Grade 5) was appointed as a member of the Defence Department’s Financial Management Education and Training section, requiring her to deliver training to both civilian and military members at all levels within the Defence Organisation.
In 1998 WO1 King was posted to 2nd Training Group – Ingleburn, NSW, as a Training Development Officer, which ultimately became the Land Warfare Centre - NSW.
WO1 King was promoted to Warrant Officer Class One in 2007, and in 2008 received the Commander Land Warfare Centre Commendation for her eight years service as a Training Development Officer. As a consequence of the closure of Land Warfare Centre (NSW) in 2008, WO1 King was subsequently posted to Sydney University Regiment at Holsworthy. WO1 King has also assisted the Centre for Army Lessons with the collection of lessons from personnel who had returned from operational deployment.
WO1 King is currently a voluntary operational member of both the NSW State Emergency Service and the Rural Fire Service. As an extra appointment within the SES, WO1 King is a member of the Critical Incident Peer Support Program.
WO1 King is an intrepid traveller whose greatest adventurous achievements have been climbing Mt Kilimanjaro (20,000 feet) and a solo trip across Russia and China on the Trans Siberian Railway. WO1 King lives in Bingara in northern NSW where she own and operates two family beef cattle producing properties.
